Stamped "France Deposé" - Meaning registered design in France
In the 1920–30s, celluloid was celebrated as a “magical material that could be carved like ivory.” Ha rd yet weightless, capable of lace-like detail, it inspired Parisian ateliers to create miniature “carved stories.” After the 1930s, carved celluloid virtually disappeared — the material was flammable, difficult to work with, and required intense hand-carving skill.
Finding a well-preserved pair of French carved celluloid brooches from the 1920s is truly a collector’s stroke of luck.
